Heather, I enjoyed the article and your comments about Facebook. I'm not surprised about how some students believe that their public information should be private. They are Digital Natives and are immersed between two worlds - private and virtual public. They want to express themselves and want people to see them as they are - young and bold. That's the part of youth we hope they have an opportunity to experience. However, sometimes that image doesn't fit with a company, as you pointed out, and causes a chain of HR events - no one will hire them in the field. Many college students are too young to remember the articles about the web browser and its impact on public information. I clearly recall them and remember Tim Berner's Lee fighting for the freedom of internet expression and virtual laws. The question is: are these students setting themselves up for too much scrutiny too soon? In today's workforce where stumbling across a person's bad moment is etched in cyberspace, I think teaching classes on this topic is a must! Because we are Digital Immigrants, and learned about keeping diaries private, I think we have an advantage. I guess we'll have to teach them that it can be as big as Cindy giving away Marcia's diary. Imagine how that would translate in today's world.

You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be actually something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complex and extremely broad for me. I'm looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!

In regards to PA WIA funding, when I became unemployed 2/2010, I was denied to apply for PA WIA by the Warren County CareerLink office in PA. The person told me I had to come back in 6 months. I did. I applied. I returned to school full time also and was told there were no funds for my first term. I was told there was no funding for my second term. Now, as I begin my third term, the CareerLink tells me my application was not completed prior to the term starting, so there is no way any funding can be released for my education for this term!
Please understand, there are several other students from different PA counties attending the very same school I am, who were permitted to apply at layoff, were approved and have been receiving funding for all three of these terms!! Now the CareerLink person tells me they are anticipating funding to be available for my next term at the end of August, 2011, and your article says the opposite. Now what?!?
